The queen in the royal chamber -- the king

The queen, which is the basis for the growth an well-being of the colony, receives a lot of care and attention. She is locked and protected in the royal chamber, where she is protected from most dangers. The excellent nourishment by the attending workers allows her ovaries to develop until the abdomen reaches enormous, sometimes sausage-like dimensions. The mature queen may weigh as much as 30,000 workers and is unable to move. She lays an egg every two seconds.
The image shows the inside of the royal chamber, and the rather small king who always keeps the queen company. In contrast to the bees, where the queen can store a lifetimes worth of sperm after the nuptual flight, the termite king has to stick around and mate with the queen regularly.
The picture on the right shows a detailed view of the king. In contrast to the worker and soldier castes, both reproductives have regular compound eyes. The wings are lost immediately after the nuptial flight, directly before the royal pair digs into the ground to start a new colony.
